i need one for about 400-550 $$$

i need it for digital imaging class.

i want at least 10 mega-pixel SLR with lens.

It's around five hundred dollars. It comes with a lens, it's a really nice camera. It has 10 megapixels, and a 2.7″ screen. This is a really nice camera. And, luckily for you, it's in your budget. Happy shooting.

Don't get hung up on megapixel count. If you’re not doing really really huge enlargements you’ll not miss them. I know for a fact the D40 can easily do 12 x 18 inch prints and it can probably do larger You do want quality so do yourself a favor and look at the D40. In that price range you get more for your money than any other camera. If you can go a little more step up to the D60

If you can afford the D60 it will give you a number of things you want. It has newer firmware and image processors, designed for the 10 mp sensor. It has an “Active Dust Reduction System with Airflow Control “. Nikon not putting a system on the D40 to deal with dust is one of the biggest drawbacks I see to the D40 ( though I think its still a great camera for the money) If you change lenses dust will get in and the camera needs a system to deal with it. With the D60 you get a VR lens. That’ll help with low light situations ( they may offer that now with the D40 but originally it was not) . The D60 has Adaptive Dynamic Range. Nikon calls it “Active D-Lighting,” it lets you save some highlights that my otherwise be lost. It has a newer better metering system than the D40.

For a tiny bit more, you can get the Canon Rebel XTi or Nikon D60.
